RE4. AP-7 Roadtrip

The Mediterranean highway or AP-7 is the hub that connects road traffic along the entire Spanish Mediterranean coast, from Algeciras to France. This publication encourages us to travel through this national road trip interrupted by architectures with not always evident interest, to overcome confusion and transform it into curiosity. An archive and research work that seeks what is beyond nostalgia in the story of progress and tourism in our country.

Inaugurated its first section in 1969 it was widely used in the propaganda of Francoist developmentism, as a symbol of progress and starting point of the Spanish consumer society. Currently, the imaginary around the road is far from the optimistic fascination of the seventies and the landscape and architectures that accompany us on the journey cause strangeness.

The publication accompanies us on the journey between Alicante and La Jonquera and reveals, as we open it, as if it were a printed map of roads, the stories and documentation behind this infrastructure as unknown as vital in the structuring of the Mediterranean territory.
