RE1. Late to the party
Late to the party refers to the generational feeling of arriving late at the right moment, the feeling of loss of a more optimistic era or the observation that certain trends or movements in the history of architecture influenced these Valencian buildings a few years later than expected.
This book fuses the imaginary of pop culture, cinema, music, photography and writing with the discovery of an architectural heritage that was crying out for someone to value it.
The project plays with mixing past, present and possible futures using archive images, plans, current photographs and visual references that a priori would have nothing to do with the buildings. Late to the party has multiple layers and bound heads that each reader, as interested, can pull.
Late to the party is a global look at a local phenomenon: the appearance -and in most cases the abandonment- of buildings designed between the 60s and 80s, of Valencia and its surroundings, very particular and as very present in the collective imagination as unknown.
The project is a guide that accompanies you on the tour through eight buildings and the experience of discovering flying saucers in an industrial area, a pyramid in the middle of the fields or a bunker next to the beach.
